Andreas Kannen’s work involves approaches for institutional and social assessments of environmental and economic changes in coastal areas. His focus is on changes in patterns of marine use, the evolution of maritime industries, especially offshore wind farming, marine/maritime spatial planning (MSP) and institutional aspects of marine governance. His specific interests include dimensions of scale (in time and space), differences in problem perspectives of different actors, and the transnational dimensions of spatial planning. Andreas is an experienced coordinator and work package leader of large national and international projects and has been involved in several international research networks and advisory groups. Since 2010 he has served as chair of the ICES Working Group on Marine Planning and Coastal Zone Management (WGMPCZM) and as co-chair of related ICES Workshops such as Quality Assurance of MSP and Cultural Dimensions of Ecosystem Services.

Roland Cormier holds an MSc in Biology from the “Université de Moncton” (Canada). He has more than 30 years of experience in fisheries stock assessment, shellfish sanitation, fish inspection, environmental assessment as well as coastal and oceans management. He has also published research papers in those fields. In his most recent position, he was the regional director for Ecosystem Management at Fisheries and Oceans with responsibilities for environmental assessment, integrated coastal and oceans management as well as species at risk. He also led centres of expertise in coastal management and risk management. Roland is a member of the ICES Working Group on Marine Planning and Coastal Zone Management (WGMPCZM) and worked for 4 years at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He has recently joined the Group of Experts on Risk Management in Regulatory Systems of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. His research interests include risk management frameworks in ecosystem approaches to management, bridging ISO standards to ecosystem approaches to management, policy-science integration in legislation and standards development, and implementation of compliance verification and performance audits in environmental management.
In BALTSPACE, Roland is mostly working on approaches and tools, with particular focus on the bow-tie approach.

Kira Gee is a post-doctoral Research Associate with extensive research and practical experience in MSP. Over the last 10 years she has worked on numerous EU-funded MSP projects in the Baltic and European Atlantic (including BaltSeaPlan, PartiSEApate and TPEA), and has a particular interest in the transboundary challenges associated with MSP. Previously employed at Liverpool University and HZG, her research interests include transboundary marine governance, planning cultures, value and belief systems of different stakeholders, and cultural ecosystem services and seascapes. Kira is also a member of the International Council for the Exploration of Sea (ICES) Working Group on Marine Planning and Coastal Zone Management (WGMPCZM) and was co-chair of the ICES Workshop on Cultural Dimensions of Ecosystem Services.
In BALTSPACE, Kira is responsible for tasks related to approaches and tools and their integration with the analytical framework and case studies.
