Aarhus University, Department of Bioscience
The Department of Bioscience (BIOS), Aarhus University has a focus on both fundamental and applied research in the field of ecology of marine and terrestrial ecosystems. The department has excellent research and teaching facilities and is an integrated part of the National Centre of Environment and Energy acting as a major advisor for national government agencies. In the marine sector, BIOS conducts monitoring, and develops dynamic and statistical models in various disciplines including biological oceanography, benthic habitats, seabirds and marine mammals. BIOS combines different techniques (GIS, Marxan) to integrate information on ecosystem components and human pressures into wider conservation and planning frameworks on a national and pan-Baltic level.

Karsten Dahl
Karsten Dahl is Senior Advisor and Section Leader (Marine Biodiversity and Experimental Ecology) at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University, Denmark. Karsten has strong experience in marine monitoring and quality assessment, with a focus on structure and function of macro algae communities at stone reefs. Further research priorities include natural and anthropogenic regulation of hard bottom habitats, effects of eutrophication and physical disturbance and habitat coherence. Karsten acts as an advisor for the Ministry of Environment with regard to the EC-Habitats Directive, Water Framework Directive and Marine Strategy Framework Directive with special emphasis on hard bottom habitats. Karsten was involved in various national and international projects including RevFisk, Blue Reef, BALANCE, GIG, BaltSeaPlan, and Baltadapt.

Cordula Göke
Cordula Göke is a GIS expert in the section for Applied Marine Ecology and Modelling at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University, Denmark. Cordula is working with WebGIS development as well as GIS analysis and modelling, including the development of methods. Her focus in BALTSPACE is on the use of Marxan site selection tool in the context of MSP. Marxan was originally developed as a decision support tool to optimise networks of marine protected areas. Cordula has aplied the Marxan for offshore wind farm planning in the project BaltSeaPlan and wants to extend to more complex tasks and analyse the usefullness for the integration challenges of the planning process.

Marie Maar
Marie Maar is a Senior Scientist at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University, Denmark. Marie is trained within biological oceanography with a strong research interest in benthic-pelagic coupling, trophodynamics, eutrophication, aquaculture and marine ecosystem functioning in coastal and open waters. Marie is using monitoring data and 3d modelling of the North Sea-Baltic Sea to evaluate the effects of anthropogenic activities and climate change on marine ecosystem dynamics. Marie participated in different national and EU projects including MABENE, OPEC, RECLAIM, MEECE and VECTORS.

Christian Mohn
Christian Mohn is a Senior Scientist at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University, Denmark. Christian has an academic background in physical oceanography with a strong research interest in bio-physical interactions and marine ecosystem functioning in coastal waters and the deep sea. Christian is using observational and modelling techniques to better understand the full spectrum of marine ecosystem dynamics, and to integrate ecosystem information into conservation and planning frameworks. Christian participated in different national and EU projects including SEFOS, OASIS, BaltSeaPlan, CoralFISH and MyOcean.
